New Delhi: Vehicle maker Ashok Leyland reported a 39.9 percent decline in sales in January. Ashok Leyland is the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India. The company has sold 11,850 units in the month of January. The pace of industrial growth is estimated from the sale of commercial vehicles. It is believed that if the commercial vehicle sales are low, it means a period of economic slowdown in the country.

In January last year, the company sold 19,741 vehicles
Ashok Leyland said during his regulatory filing that the company had sold 19,741 units last year. The Chennai based company said that during the month of January it has sold a total of 10,850 units domestically, which was 18,533 units during the same period last year, which is 41.4 percent less. If we talk about the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment, vehicle sales in the domestic market fell by 49.1 percent to 6,949 units. This figure was 13,663 units as of last year. Sales of light commercial vehicles were 3,901 units last month, which is 19.8 percent lower than the 4,870 units sold in January last year.
